The design of public policies in Latin America suffers from poor strategic depth and lacks a long-term perspective. As a result, opportunities are missed and risks are not contained timely. In the other hand, many developed countries in Europe and Asia have strengthened these capabilities. In this presentation, we present a synthesis of global trends and drivers that may shape new scenarios for the world. We will explore the potential of such trends and scenarios on the priority goals set by governments, political and social leaders and experts from Latin American countries. Issues to be addressed include governance, inequality, productivity, integration and international partnerships, sustainable development and climate change. We then proceed to identify those areas deserving of continuous monitoring. We will finally suggest how prospective functions and strategic thinking could be organized in governments and think tanks, and the desirability of articulating a Latin American network.
