Women Bodies in the 21st Century Literary Production

Fri, May 27, 12:45 to 2:15pm, TBA

Abstract

As opposed to other Latin-American literatures, Cuban literature in the decades of seventies and eighties from the last century was not characterized by the development of a narrative written by women. The present paper explores the production of a group of women writers (born in between 1959 and 1975) whose work begins to be written and published during the first decade of the 21st Century. They undertake the labor of re-writing the national imaginary. Through their selected works, we can progressively identify some of the most significant displacements within the social Cuba’s sphere. My paper focuses on the manner in which the portray of these female characters and their bodies is articulated with the goal of having documented silences, violations and displacements such as the ones suffered by Cuba as fragmented nation.
