Session Submission Type: Roundtable
This roundtable discusses a recently published book on the rise of social movements in Chile (edited by Donoso and von Bülow, Palgrave Macmillan, 2016). Authors and discussants will meet in this roundtable to discuss the findings of the book. Going beyond the specific cases covered by the book (student movement, Mapuche movement, trade union movement, feminist movement, and environmental movement), participants will put the Chilean experience into a broader, comparative perspective. The roundtable will also discuss the changing interactions among movements, political parties, and state institutions that have underpinned the reconstruction of collective action in post-transition Chile, and which is a major focus of debate in the whole book.
