Analysis of Coverage Inclusion and Equity in the Region

• In Event: Social security pensions in Latin America: The struggle for inclusion and equality

Abstract

In 2018 my book Social Security in Latin America: Pressure Groups, Stratification and Inequality was 40 years old. The paper will take a look at what has happened on coverage of the labor force and the elderly since then. Based on household surveys taken in virtually all countries in the region, the paper will measure, in a comparative manner, changes in both types of coverage by contributory and non-contributory (social) pensions. In addition, it will analyze remaining inequalities in coverage, based on income, gender, education, occupation and location.
