Cómo operan la clase y el sexo: una mirada a través de las trayectorias identitarias y migratorias de las mujeres migrantes trans de América latina

Abstract

This work focuses on trans (MtF) Latin American population. The objectives of the work are (1) to examine the identity path of this population, (2) to understand its very strong inscription in prostitution and (3) to examine their migratory experiences. The field survey was conducted mainly in France and Spain. Concerning the identity change, the research shows the weight of the social formation of the environment of origin, and particularly the weight of norms relating to the gender in the popular milieus (hetero-normativity, homophobia, sanction of the deviant masculinities). This class / gender imbrication places people in the marginal and stigmatized social position of prostitution. The paper illustrates this environment, where the festive imagination rubs shoulders with the ordinary of violence. The migratory experience, highly valued in the country of origin, is examined. The reinforcement of the inscription in prostitution, the linguistic isolation, the type of links forged with the family are discussed.
