The Rhetoric of Blackness in Cuban Music Video

Abstract

I examine the boom of recent music videos that explicitly deal with Afrocuban identity and considering how artists are using technical and generic tropes to create an audiovisual rhetoric of blackness that both builds upon and differs from the previous Afrocubanist movement in music and the visual arts that took place in the 1990s and early 2000s.
