Quilombola Women and Girls: accessing their right to education

Abstract

The 2006 Brazil Quilombola Plan represents a watershed moment in terms of the design of a comprehensive set of public policies to extend citizenship rights to a centuries-old marginalized segment of the Brazilian population: the Quilombolas. Although the design deserves praise, there are systematic implementation problems, which, needless to say, have a strong gender implication.
