The panel will discuss the influence of ethnicity or ethnic groups on Latin American politics. The papers refer both to conventional politics such as voting in elections and participation in parties (and parliaments) and to non-conventional politics such as social movements or different forms of protests. They combine both quantitative methods (based on census, survey and election data from several Latin American countries) and qualitative methods based on case studies covering countries such diverse as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guyana and Surinam.
