Session Submission Type: Panel
This panel follows the central theme of the LASA congress. Social security pensions in Latin America have been the subject of structural reforms and re-forms for almost four decades. The panel focus on the impact of such reforms on coverage, mainly through non-contributory (“social”) pensions, which have been implemented in most of the 20 countries in the region improving inclusion. On the other hand, inequalities in coverage, benefits, finances and other aspects continue to be a major problem, despite advances in many countries. The panel first provides an overall view on the two major subjects in the region, and then case studies of Chile and Peru.
