What makes urban Latin America different from other world regions in today's mostly urbanized world? What is the significance of urban poverty, informality and inequality and to what extent do they explain urban development? The roundtable will examine issues facing communities in metropolitan areas and critically consider urban policies, neoliberal reforms and "best practices" in Latin American cities, including reforms in housing, transportation, local governance and social policy. It will als o include unique cases from Cuba and Uruguay.
