Session Submission Type: Panel
The XXI century brought new features to Brazilian emigration compared to previous decades: new destinations (i.e. Ireland and Mercosur), distinct modalities (student mobility), investors and life style migration. Moreover, Brazilian economic growth during the world crisis in 2008-2012, led to the return of many Brazilians living abroad. However, since 2016, its political and economic instability twisted once again Brazilian emigration: intensification, break out of old destinations (i.e. Portugal), prompting the upper classes to leave Brazil. This panel aims to discuss new perspectives of Brazilian emigration, reflecting and relating about the recent and old flows and their implications.
