Session Submission Type: LASA Section Roundtable
With Latina/o/x communities in and around East Boston, Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, Lawrence, Chelsea, Providence, Central Falls, New Haven, Waterbury, Hartford, and Nashua, among other cities, research on Latina/o/x New England is of growing interest. This roundtable takes stock of published research on these places and others, to understand the contours of this regional sub-field and ask what lies in its future. Some of the key questions panelists will discuss include: How has the Latina/o/x population and their concerns changed since the earliest community settlements in the region? What are the most pressing research topics for scholars studying New England? Which sites, groups, and areas of research remain under-explored? What are the most exciting areas of research in the present? In what ways has the approach to studying Latinidad in New England changed over time? What makes research on Latina/o/x New England distinct from other regions? How does your institutional setting inform your research? How do community partnerships enhance research about Latina/o/xs in New England?
