Session Submission Summary

The End of the Pink Tide in Latn America and its rebirth in Mexico

Sun, May 26, 10:45am to 12:15pm, TBA

Session Submission Type: Panel

Abstract

The coming to office of rightwing governments, by electoral and other means, in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador, and deep crisis in Venezuela suggests that the Pink Tide may be ending. Andrés Manuel López Obrador's victory in Mexico, however, suggests the Latin American Left's horizon is more complicated. This panel explores the current conjuncture of Left-Right politics in Latin America, with explorations of Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Mexico, asking what's left of the left turn?
