Abstract

Historians operate at different scales, and are sometimes force to imagine history from hyper-local or micro-regional perspectives as described by inhabitants of a particular place. In other cases the optic opens and the history of a nation or region can only be understood if placed in comparison or if seen through a transnational lens. These papers reflect this core tension.
