Looking at the horizon: Chilean sports policies seen from the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO).

Abstract

Regarding to the creation of the Ministry of Sport in 2013 and considering that in 2016 the National Policy on Sport and Physical Activity was published; the State of Chile is promoting sports and physical activity as a matter of national interest. Within the framework of the Working Group "Sports, Public Policies and Society" of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), a documentary study was conducted on the official documents of the State of Chile regarding the Public Policies that install and promote the sport as an object of social interest. The results show that the “athlete” is constructed in a failed way because on one hand, it is the object of public rights and benefits and in the other (especially in high performance), the responsibility for support and growth rests on private plane. Another result that appears is that the presence of women in sports continues to be scarce and the focus has been the increase in the presence of women. This paper concluded that sport is a field that has been scarcely studied by the social sciences and that more studies are required to constantly improve this institution of society.
