The theoretical framework used is based on the concepts of inequality and social mobility, gender relations and roles, cultural processes and higher education, taking into account key concepts related to the theme, such as the "ceiling glass" and prejudices associated with certain careers university degrees considered "masculine" or feminine ".
The main research question is: How do the perceptions of families with limited economic resources in relation to gender roles and education have affected and been affected by access to a quality university education for their daughters through Scholarship 18? In addition, The following objectives defined the research: Describe the scholars' family context with emphasis on the identification of the gender roles present in their organization, characterize the educational trajectory of family members and their effects on the beneficiaries, and analyze the effect of the Beca 18 program in the educational trajectories of the scholarship recipients and their families. To answer these questions, a mixed study was carried out with in-interviews depthand life stories made to PUCP scholars (from Lima and other cities) and their mothers and fathers; as well as a quantitative analysis based on secondary sources collected by PRONABEC and other institutions.
