This paper examines the paradiplomacy of lusophone creative cities. The nexus between the ever-widening range of activities promoted by Portuguese-speaking entities, the growing popularity of the Portuguese language and culture and the emergence of creative industries has given rise to new forms of paradiplomacy, including challenges and opportunities for traditional diplomacy.
Subnational actors have become active promoters of South - South cooperation and have promoted the creation of a common agenda for many lusophone cultural and artistic entities. Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, as well as the other lusophone countries are constantly strengthening relations among themselves including the large lusophone diaspora around the world. This paper is a preliminary look at this topic and seeks to outline major trends, factors and actors which underline this process.
