Breaking the Silence in the Archives: Rethinking feminist histories

Mon, May 27, 2:15 to 3:45pm, TBA

Abstract

Latin American feminisms since the 1970s raise an important set of comparative, methodological and historical questions that have gained renewed salience in light of the resurgence in feminist activism across the continent. This paper will discuss a multi-country initiative to set up an oral history archive on Latin American feminism that aims to highlight intergenerational and cross-country differences and similarities in the struggles, tactics and challenges of feminism to cast light on feminisms successes and failures in advancing and defending women’s rights.
