Session Submission Type: Workshop
This mini-conference will include two panels, implemented as one round table and one workshop. The purpose of the round-table, entitled “Festivales, ciclos, encuentros… Cómo visibilizar el cine y crear públicos con la comunidad,” is to share and discuss different instances promoting Latin American Cinema in the community, beyond the academic environment. The discussion will contemplate the promotion of visual and film literacy, the organization of film clubs, filmmaker’s participation in screenings, etc., as means to generate interdisciplinary, cross-institutional, and community connections. This roundtable will be from 1 - 3 pm.
The workshop, “Towards A Latin American Documentary Film Archive and Interactive Database (LA-RED),” will bring film studies scholars, a teaching technology specialist, specialized librarians, and an economist to discuss the groundwork completed for the project LA-RED. Currently, there is no consolidated bibliographic repository of Latin American documentary films. LA-RED, will present (identify, catalogue, showcase, and deliver when possible) important and meaningful documentaries. This workshop will begin at 3 pm and end at 5 pm.
