The purpose of this study is to explore how pre-service teachers connect pedagogy with
practice for community-based story hour sessions that integrate the five components of
reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension) while
fostering family engagement and promoting literacy.
This study considers the value of pre-service teachers planning and leading story hour
sessions, which increases their confidence in literacy instruction and strengthens family
connections to encourage and support literacy development in the home.
