Guided reading is a form of small group instruction with widespread adoption in classrooms across the US and around the world. Because guided reading is often used as an intervention for our most at-risk readers, it is important to take a closer look at its place in schools. This literature review will investigate the empirical evidence for guided reading, which suggests that this intervention may not be the most effective approach to supporting young readers.
