¿Saben de la llorona?: Legend-Telling in an Intergenerational Library Workshop

Wed, December 3, 8:30 to 10:00am, Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino, Floor: Mezzanine Floor, Melrose 2

Abstract

In this qualitative case study, we position legend-telling as a transnational and intergenerational literacy practice in a library-based storytelling workshop with Latinx mothers and their children. Drawing on theories of transnational literacy practices and extant literature in folklore studies, we examine how 1) mothers reconstructed traditional legends across generations and national borders; (2) children reimagined contemporary legends between modes; and (3) mothers and children collaboratively composed in ways that moved from life to legend.
