Abstract

In response to scholars’ multiple calls to diversify literature in school curricula and libraries, this panel brings together picturebook authors/illustrators, school teacher, teacher educators and literacy scholars for a conversation on the significance of global children’s literature in fostering literacy, cross-cultural understanding, critical literacy, and global perspectives in diverse U.S. classrooms including classroom practices sharing. It will offer some concrete classroom implications for English and literacy educators, and offer insights for literacy research.
