This panel explores the role of translanguaging in U.S. children’s and adolescent literature, focusing on how non-English words and language practices challenge dominant language ideologies. Through three studies, we examine the intersection of translanguaging, reader response, and visual textuality in diverse literary contexts, including picture books, bilingual classrooms, and young adult novels. By analyzing works from U.S. Latinx and Korean American communities, we highlight how translanguaging fosters inclusive literacy practices and bridges cultural divides in education.
