District focus and attitudes to legislators in the UK: how media deserts break the link

Brief Overview

US research shows ‘media deserts’ reduce people’s ability to judge their legislators. MPs may thus struggle to signal district focus. In the UK, I show that MPs’ district focus is associated with positive attitudes only where local newspapers exist.
