Can the Right Credibly Offer Redistributive Policies to the Poor? Candidate Selection and Ideology in Brazil

Brief Overview

We argue that Right-wing parties use descriptive representation of the poor to credibly commit to leftist policies in poor regions, and diverge from the left in policy in less poor areas. We provide evidence from Brazil in favor of this hypothesis.
