Racial Animus vs Racial Identity: On the Differing Roles of Racial Resentment and White Identity

Brief Overview

We find that, while racial cues activate racial resentment in a variety of political evaluations, white identity functions more consistently, regardless of racial cue, when a policy or politician threatens an individual’s racial identity.
