Session Submission Type: Workshop
The goal of this workshop is to explore primary sources and other resources that will uncover bias, develop critical thinking skills, promote inquiry, and student centered learning. The presenters will identify effective practices that bring new perspectives and understanding about different cultures, attitudes and beliefs of people from around the world. Today’s students learn about the world through a narrow lens of information presented mainly through textbooks and the media Training educators to use primary sources to help students to recognize cultural differences, become culturally sensitive, and develop problem-solving skills will help widen the lens. Primary sources are valuable for differentiating instruction because they connect to students' lives and capture their natural desire to know and understand the world. In this workshop, participants will access the resources from the Library of Congress website that will improve their ability to teach about global issues from a multi perspective approach.
