Transdisciplinary Perspectives on Teacher Professional Development: Collaborative Inquiry within a Graduate Special Interest Group

Fri, October 26, 1:30 to 2:40pm, Kingsgate Conference Center, Salon AB - 2nd Floor Grand Ballroom

Abstract

The purpose of this Roundtable presentation is to discuss a transdisciplinary perspective highlighting critical components for productive Professional Development (PD) models that transcend disciplines and paradigms. This paper was inspired by a college-wide initiative in a Midwestern, Urban University that established Graduate Special Interest Groups to increase interdisciplinary collaboration for graduate students across departments within the College of Education. The authors of this paper formed a Graduate Special Interest Group (GSIG) with the goal of collaboratively exploring research in teacher development. Through collaborative inquiry, we examined the questions, “What factors are important for productive teacher development models? Are these factors discipline specific or do they transcend disciplines?” In this presentation, we present common themes that emerged across disciplines as critical considerations for teacher development.
