This paper uses cross-sectional data from
the International Development and Early Learning Assessment (IDELA) implemented
in Bolivia to estimate the relationship between parents’ involvement in children
emerging literacy outcomes. The study design is a multivariate regression using fixed
effect at the preschool level. The results show a positive relationship between parents’
involvement and children emerging literacy outcomes. The three key aspects of
parents’ involvement are reading, teaching letters, and storytelling. Moreover, mothers
are the ones more involved in the learning process of their children. The results
demonstrate the need for policymakers to consider empirical evidence to create
programs that target parenting practices.
