Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss a few of the arguments that challenge Affirmative Action and offer justification for continued application particularly in Medical School admissions supported by the philosophical/moral theories of utility, collective responsibility, and justice. In defending the view, I will discuss how having a diverse medical student population helps make better physicians to serve a diverse patient population. I will also discuss the need for a diverse medical workforce to serve medically underserved communities. In making my case, I demonstrate the special social needs that demand redress to fill underserved needs by means of education and groups that require affirmative action policies.
