Strategies to Improve Learning Motivation in Distance Education based on the ARCS Model

Abstract

Motivation is one of the core elements in distance education, which directly contributes to stimulating and sustaining the learning process and affecting the learner's learning depth. The situation of learners’ learning motivation in distance education is getting attention all around the world. Many factors responsible for low motivation in distance education are working pressure, lacking in spare time, the complexity of course content, etc. The lack of motivation is considered as the principal responsible factor for this problem as learners feel lonely due to lack of communication & competition in distance education.
In this paper, the effectiveness of the ARCS model to help improve learners’ learning motivation in distance education has been discussed. The author believes that using the research findings of ARCS Motivation Model will be able to effectively develop and stimulate the motivation of learners in distance education, to achieve the desired results, and ensure the teaching quality of distance education.
