A Case Study: The Rasch Model Applied in Comparison of Teacher Efficacy

Thu, October 14, 8:00 to 9:10am, Graduate Hotel, Corn Hole Room

Abstract

Teaching efficacy is a belief of a teacher, to what extent the teacher believes he/she could influence their students. Based on a previous study, teacher efficacy plays an important role to influence a teacher’s teaching performance. The NOYCE program is designed for helping scholars become qualified teachers of math/science. Improving scholars’ teaching efficacy is an important training element of the NOYCE program.
For understanding the NOYCE program's influence on teachers’ teaching efficacy, a Rasch stacking comparison was applied to compare pre and post assessments of teaching efficacy. Comparing to other comparison methods, such as the t-test and z test, the Rasch model, provides the advantage to compare the pre-post assessments by stack people’s pre and post responses of items, and to make the comparison. In this way, evaluators could easily recognize participants’ locations change in the same ruler.
