This research in progress explores student-ready higher education from the faculty perspective across a large midwestern university. The examination outlines that a student-ready university would support all students, no matter their background or preparation. Research shows that faculty are central to the success of universities and colleges being student ready. Using grounded theory, the study includes analysis from interviews with five diverse faculty, with more interviews in process. Preliminary results show that faculty see a role for their institution to be ready to support all students, but they believe that instructors can’t do it alone and the university as it exists cannot provide needed support. Faculty identifying as conservative are more likely to say maintaining standards is more important. The implication is that institutions seeking to become more student ready will need to convince some faculty of the need for the approach and its ability to provide necessary resources.
