Teaching Research Methods and Statistics across Cultures

Thu, October 19, 8:00 to 9:10am, The Graduate Hotel - Cincinnati, Alice Room

Abstract

I am submitting this proposal at the request of the Program Chair for the Pilot-test of online paper presentations by international scholars.
During the 10-15-minute paper session, these are the topics I plan to cover:
• Share and compare experiences teaching research methods and statistics in the US (Ohio University in Ohio and Loyola Marymount University in California) and in Thailand.
• STEM Vs. Social Science students’ characteristics and learning atmosphere
• Cultural aspects
• Language barrier including English proficiency (e.g., establishing a Toastmasters club on campus)
• Technological shortage including copy right issues (e.g., access to software programs)
• Faculty salary, benefits, career path, and relevant opportunities
• Politics in Southeast Asia (e.g., semi-democracy)
• International collaboration (e.g., Chicago School of Professional Psychology, MWERA)
At the end of my presentation, I will leave a couple of minutes for questions and answers. Thank you for your consideration.
