In this paper, I draw upon Celts and Greeks, along with scholars from Ong to Walker to support my claim that opposites, in ancient oral tradition, are a way of coming together through discovery. In support, I examine significantly oral traditions of rhetoric engaging opposites of paradox and agonistic, moving into oral/literate traditions highlighting conceptual and embodied opposition. I end with a discussion of opposition in orality and literacy and implications for coming together.
