The Action-centered Model of Organizational Trust

Thu, November 17, 9:30 to 10:45am, Sheraton, Commonwealth

Abstract

Over the past decade, trust has been gaining special attention as a crucial component of organizational life. An abundance of conceptualizations of trust and numerous empirical studies provide valuable insights about the role of trust in the organizational context. Still, in many ways trust has remained a terra incognita. This study sheds light on the under-researched areas of trust. It explains the meaning of organizational trust and provides an understanding of the ways in which trust is communicated. The substantive theory derived from the data has both theoretical and practical implications. It expands the theoretical foundations of trust by introducing communication theory into the studies on trust, and it provides a model of organizational trust with a strong actionable potential.
