Surviving in Higher Education as a "teacher" first needs to be valued, as our students deserve teacher's first and professors second. Many of our graduate schools feel that teaching is an instinct as there are very few education courses required, if any. A short two-week intense workshop cannot sustain a long-term instructor who can bring the discipline to the students at their level. As a veteran of 24 years if teaching in a 4-year institution, holding a secondary education degree in the field, I bring a unique perspective to the discussion of the uses and abuses of Adjunct faculty.
