This study examined grandchildren's perceptions about grandparent sex, contextual age, perceptions of grandparent emotional disclosure, and the relationship between perceived grandparent emotional disclosure and perceived grandparent painful self-disclosure (PSD). Findings indicated that grandmothers compared to grandfathers were perceived to be more willing to emotionally disclose. Grandmothers' perceived willingness to disclose feeling depressed, afraid, and angry was associated with perceived PSD. For grandfathers perceived willingness to disclose feeling depressed and worried was associated with perceived PSD.
