This paper examines contemporary discourses on issues of black masculinity. It calls for a new direction in such critical inquiries, to begin to explore "good" black masculinity. This essay serves not to sterilize present discussions of masculinity, but to further expand our understandings of black masculinity beyond dysfunctional and disabling. This essay is a critical think piece, which challenges interdisciplinarily--as well as challenges the theoretical assumptions and the practices and beliefs of those in and/or outside the academy.
