The number of smoking instances in film has risen dramatically in the past ten years. A growing body of research indicates that there is link between adolescents who smoke and their exposure to smoking in film. This monograph develops a multi-theoretical model that integrates mass communication theory, narrative theory, and public health research with the intent to inform the development of a media literacy program to promote critical thinking skills about smoking in film.
