Are we Normal? Communication, Science, and the Health of the Discipline

Abstract

Evaluations of health are typically conducted through a comparison to an accepted standard or normal condition. This panel, which is comprised of participants from across the discipline, assesses the health of Communication by evaluating it against such a standard. In particular, the panel investigates whether and to what extent Communication, as it is currently configured and practiced, constitutes what scholars have termed a normal science.
