Care(Fully) Performing Intimate and Public Resistance in Time

Sun, November 20, 11:00am to 12:15pm, Marriott, Wellesley

Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion

Abstract

Intimate and public narratives of resistance involving issues of health and care—in relation to illness, resistance to oppression, scholarly appropriation, and cultural significance—shape the panel’s investigations. Projects include: a performance excerpt from Angelina Grimké's 1838 address; liminality as a component of care giving/receiving in Louisa May Alcott’s adult writings; affective legacies in school segregation narrative; Annie Oakley’s bodily and discursive experiences; and a (re)visitation of narratives included in and produced by W;t.

Because of its interdisciplinary nature, this panel is co-sponsored with the Feminist & Women Studies Division.
