Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion
This panel is centrally concerned with the ways in which people participate in, identify with and negotiate their local social worlds in and through communication. Each paper presents a description of what is local in a community and does so by examining the discourse of people who are reflective about what this means. Together they illustrate how studying local understandings provides communication scholars a method of approaching complex public issues.
