Where Are We Going, Where Have We Been? Intellectual Pursuits, Ethical Questions, and Faith in the Future of Communication Theory

Abstract

Challenges to the nature, intellect, and practicality of communication theory continuously emerge in the discipline as questions about ontological, epistemological, and axiological underpinnings continue to clash. This paper panel collects four different studies regarding communication theory and asks the audience to imagine what communication theory's future may look like. Providing both optimistic and pessimistic worldviews, the panel will ask and explore many tough questions and leave the audience energized about their role in communication theory.
