Session Submission Summary

The Role of Communication in the Training and Development Process: Ideas from Academics and Practitioners

Sun, November 18, 11:00am to 12:15pm, Chicago Hilton, Floor: Second Floor, Boulevard B

Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion

Abstract

Training effectiveness and transfer are two areas of interest for training and development scholars and practitioners. Previous research suggests that several factors have the potential to influence participants' evaluations and success of an organization's training initiative: pre-training factors, training content, trainee characteristics, and training delivery. We propose that communication research can provide unique knowledge to the understanding of the training content and delivery process. The presentations in this panel provide examples of theoretical, empirical, and practical contributions of the communication discipline to T & D.
