History in Communications & Cultural Studies: What? When? Why?

Abstract

This panel enters the debate about communications history, from a cultural studies perspective. We offer a critique of the practice and writing of history within both communications and cultural studies. That is while most of our papers originate in the analysis of “unconventional” objects outside of communications we do so through the lens of historiography – through our research and writing we seek to challenge the existing findings and interpretations traditionally related to the history of communications.
