Session Submission Summary

Rethinking Anarchism, Reconsidering Ethical and Effective Communication

Sun, November 18, 11:00am to 12:15pm, Chicago Hilton, Floor: Fourth Floor, Conference Room 4L

Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion

Abstract

This panel explores early anarchism as an opportunity to engage the “Communicat[ion of] Worldviews: Faith-Intellect-Ethics,” particularly in terms of theoretical standards for ethical and effective communication. Early anarchism challenges prescriptive ethics, commonality, and instrumental (or political) effectiveness, standards which commonly define “good” communication. By reconsidering anarchism from a more “anarchist” perspective, panelists widen the theoretical treatment of social movements and the State, democratic rights, tactics of resistance, and rhetorical possibility.
