Session Submission Summary

Theorizing about Disruptive Experiences in Close Relationships

Sun, November 18, 11:00am to 12:15pm, Chicago Hilton, Floor: Third Floor, PDR 3

Session Submission Type: Panel Discussion

Abstract

The publication of Cupach and SpitzbergÂ’s volume, The Dark Side of Interpersonal Communication, sparked an impressive body of research on a variety of disruptive experiences within interpersonal relationships. This work has laid the foundation for theoretical perspectives that transcend specific phenomena to provide insight into negative relationship events more generally. Thus, the twin goals of this panel are to highlight alternative theories of disruptive relationship experiences and to promote a discussion that juxtaposes these perspectives.
