One way gendered identities take shape is though efforts to promote a healthy, pain-free, disease-free, and symptomless human body. The papers in this panel examine the rhetorical construction of female identity in a variety of health-related discourses. They show how mediated representations of female health construct what it means to be a woman on the basis on varying agendas and how women themselves participate in this construction as both educators and healthcare providers.
